77 Waterdog? Need parts and help....

New guy here, got a "new to me" boat, need some parts, some help, and info.

I purchased this boat, pics attached, from a guy in the Corpus Christi area, he said he originally got it from someone near Brenham, so I am assuming it's one of you guys past boats, or maybe not, but would be cool to know a little more history on it, this guy had it for about 3 years.

It says on the Registration paperwork 1977 Waterdog 18'.  I cannot find any info on that brand of hull.... It looks kinda like a Hawaiin or something to me.  It's full stringer, good solid hull, has "okay" paint and interior, has a good pump.  The pump has a plate on top that says Dominator MB 12S, the plate on the back of the boat says Berkeley, it has a droop and diverter.  It also has a Stainless impeller and new wear ring recently installed by Garry Snow.  Spoke with him here via PM he confirmed he did do the pump work on the boat.  I purchased it with no motor, the guy had a 460 Ford in it, blew it up.  I have a 454 Chevy that I will be putting in it.  I need some parts.  Over the transom headers, oil pan, motor plates and brackets, water pump (or lack thereof) setup, alternator, pulley, flywheel, driveline, intake,  and carb.

I wanted a boat I could stick my motor in and put it in the water to have some fun, not looking to drag race it much, just chill, cruise, and make a bunch of noise...  Looking to put a basically stock 454 (468 I guess, it's .030), in the boat to keep it reliable.  The impeller may be an "A" and I think I may need to be careful on my carb/cam/intake choices to be able to turn the impeller good, I don't know, I am pretty much a noob to jet boats....  So someone help me pick a cam for my motor, it's a 70's Truck block, .030 454 the machine shop that is building the motor said it will be around 9.5:1 compression.

I live between Hempstead and Katy, some of you may know me as Shimp, some may not and mistakingly call me "Shrimp" but there is no R it's just "shimp"...

I've never heard of the hull, but it appears to be a nice ride with good equipment.....several people can help, Tom @ jetboatperformance, Garry @ performance Marine, etc. I might even be able to help out. 361-550-9667 I'm headed to bed now, going to Lake Travis in the morning...good luck, and welcome to THB!

No prob.  Taking engine to machine shop tommorow and stripping interior (old nasty oily carpet) out of the boat and cleaning it up real good, so I got plenty to keep me busy this weekend.

Thanks Greaser, BTW, you got any of the parts I listed above?

I checked the HIN, it's a TXZ, so it's been retitled as homemade...  Guess someone will have to id the orignal maker just by looking at the hull itself.......

I remember seeing that boat at Snow's. I was there with Oldbuck on one of his trips over to Snow's checking on his boat when they dropped it off.

Then, few weeks later, that boat was at Colet. It was one of the earlier Hydrofest deals when Duane had one in August. It was the year they tried taking the pics with a bunch of us running side by side throwing the roost. Those guys were out there then.

Don't know anything specific about the boat though, there may be some pics of it in the gallery.

Welcome to the site by the way, see ya on the water somewhere or another soon...

Yep, that's the boat, got it in Ingleside.

Did have a ford in it, but I am putting a BBC in it.  I got it without the motor.

The boat was pretty rough interior wise so I am cleaning it all up, not sure how it looked a couple years back....  The carpet was shot so I yanked it out, pressure washed and degreased it all, it was really oily too.  Will be putting new carpet in it this week or next week, motor is at the machine shop.  I still need headers, mounts, and a few other things for the BBC though..... Motor should be done in 2-3 weeks, possibly sooner.

The wife and I are heading out there today just to float around, she loves going to the lake and just floating around drinking beer (my kind of girl) though I probably won't drink much but water we will be out there today, probably at overlook gonna meet up with my stepson, he is out there with his dad today, but his dad has to make a run back home or something and we are gonna go up there and hang with the stepson for a while, he's 14 so he'd probably be fine by hisself, but my wife will take any excuse to get in the water!  Sounds like me too, though I prefer to bring a boat, I have three right now, 2 are down, 1 has expired tags and needs a new battery and I haven't taken it out since last June so I think I'll just leave it parked at the house...

How's the water levels at the lake?  I heard it was way down.

Im still here.  Was working on the boat last summer, and a good friend who was helping me was killed in a motorcycle accident.  So for a while there I just didn't even want to work on the boat, but here it is spring time again already and I am itching to get on the lake.... So...  about to start working on the boat again.

I got a big pile of nice parts that I never installed and a fresh motor and the interior was stored inside, not outdoors so basically I just got to get with it and before long it will be ready to put in the water.  Will be looking forward to meeting some of you soon.  I got a couple other small projects in the works, but should be finished with them before end of this month and as soon as I am done will be working on this boat again.

I got a brand new B&B 12 quart oil pan and pickup, got it last summer, I am pretty much set on the parts right now, got a few more on their way here already, now it's just a matter of getting the time to get it all put together.  Will be working on it hard the next 4 weeks or so as I get spare time, hope to have it ready to go in water by memorial day weekend.
