Indian Lodge?

I've been wanting to explore Lake Whitney and the Brazos. I've heard y'all talk about Plowman's Creek for a while. I found Indian Lodge and it looks like a good place for us to stay. There are seven of us total. I'm still in love with the Lower Colorado River outside of Yuma, AZ and this looks like it might be similar.

Any input on Indian Lodge?

How about navigating this area with my IO 25' Nordic Rage?

Thanks for your help!

shouldnt have any problems if the water level is right, few peps on the boards have stayed at indian lodge, where are you located?  and we will give you info on what lakes you want to go to.

oh and welcome to THB!

We're from San Antonio.  I'm looking for a place where we can set up a canopy on a sandbar to get the seven of us out of the boat.  It would be nice if we could ski and tube from there.  It sounds like there should be plenty of lake to explore as well.

You might want to check out Canyon Lake.  :smile30:

Not a lot of sand but, the water is real nice.

I know about the lakes here and in Austin.  And by the way Medina is much better than Canyon in my opinion.  I'm looking for the River element!

Gotcha.  Come down to the Bay City rally on Memorial weekend.  It's about the best river action around.

First off, welcome to THB... :smile17:

Posted this in response to Slow67 asking about Indian Lodge recently:

Indian Lodge has cabins & what they call "motel rooms" as well....  They have their own ramp, with some slips available to rent if desired. They also sell gas there at the lodge as well, midgrade I believe. We've stayed there a number of times & never had any issues. Cabins are not super fancy, but always had everything we needed. The owners live on site, really friendly & can take care of any issues if something comes up. One thing to take into consideration is if the river is too far down, their ramp may not be usable. May wanna ask them about it if you are thinking about staying there. Other than that, I love running on the Brazos river there, nice, wide & smoooth pretty much everywhere we went. Greg(Oldbuck40) is who gave us the heads up about the place. he may have more detailed info should you have any questions.  Although we missed Plowmans last year, Indian Lodge is where we always stay. Several other members here have stayed there as well.

Oh yeah, they have a pool that Esabataj can describe to you in great detail...  lol..

Can read little more in the thread about it.... http://www.texashotboats.com/forums/index.php?topic=12197.0

Far as a place to unload & "basecamp" for the day, Steele Creek is a good one. Can do a search here for that too for plenty of info.

In the meantime, as Tim/DISTURBED sez, come down to Bay City Memorial Day weekend, big ass sandy beach, plenty of river action & meet quite a few THB'ers.

Rage,

I am in SA as well and have an IO 21 footer.

To set up on a sand bar you really need to go up to LBJ. Where the lake splits, go left and stay on that side until you get up to the shallow water. There are a few rocks, but easy to see where they are. We go up there and follow one of the small channels (about 3-4 foot) that wind into the flats. The water is about a foot deep on the flats. We just set up the easy up and chairs, turn the stereo on and hang out. Makes it good for the little ones. Once you know the route, you can drop off and pick up from there pretty easy. I am headed up there Saturday. The only good place to put in on LBJ is at south end of the lake. Take 281 North to 2147 and hang a left. Go about 4 miles and then you will see LAKE LBJ Resort and Marina. There is a really good free LCRA ramp there with a dock.

Are you talking the ramp right by the dam?

i put in there last year and ran up to about a half mile short of inks lake dam, the colorado river arm is like a six  mile long swimming pool from kingsland up to the rocks, of course we were there during the week may get a little choppy/crowded during the weeekend

No that bad on the weekend except for the occasional water skier/wake boarder in the middle. They tend to stay below the Llano/Colorado fork on the lake.

If we dont get any rain, then you will find me at LBJ quite a bit this year.

Been there done that.  It's a nice area but I'd like to find a sandbar that's not under water.  In AZ there were big sandbars where lots of folks hung out or you could find a smaller one for you and the family and watch the goings on and fast boats from a more family friendly perch.

Is water an issue on the Brazos/Whitney?  I thought y'all had gotten plenty of water.

That is going to be hard to do around here. We used to have areas like that on Mead and Mohave, so I understand. If I find something I will let you know. The wife and I are looking for the same thing.

On Canyon once the water goes down a bit a few islands start to come out...

I am thinking of heading out to Somerville where there are sandy beaches later this year and checking that out.
