OIL FILTER BRAND for High Performance Engines

Changing the oil in the new engine and I normally run the Fram HP 4 ( high performance  filter ) but thinking of changing over to the WIX 51059R or 51060R racing filters . One is about 4.3 inch tall and the other one is a little over 5.0 tall . I have room for either one . O'Reilly can get them next day for 11.00 apiece , just a dollar more than Summit

Has any one ran a Wix Racing Filter ?

List the filter you guys are running ..

Also thinking of just running the Rotella T 15-40 oil this year and not go back to the Mobil 1 .. If it good enough for those HIGH Compression Diesel , it should be good for my 13.5 to 1 engine . I know I will turn twice the RPM , but I think I will be OK ..

Let me know your thoughts on this ..

Thanks --Billy

The Wix is a far better filter than Fram.
There was a guy that did some tests and actually cut the filters apart to show how they are made. It was on the internet about 8 or 10 months ago, I'll look for it and post it when I find it.

I found one from a couple of years ago, but there is another test with a WIX filter in the group.
Here's the site:

I have always heard mostly bad things about Fram. You know how that goes though.

That said, even before I ever heard anything about Fram, I have run Wix & Wix Racing oil filters on everything  I've owned since I've had a drivers license. Thats what we use at the shop as well on all the Caterpillar equipment: oil, air, fuel, hydraulic, etc...

The guy at Napa said their filters are Wix.....so I'm running a Napa that's supposed to be a Wix. Duane, is that true??

Up until recently, Ive used Fram all my life since I started driving 1982 and never had a problem with them ever failing.

So you are using the 51061R with NO anti drain back valve  ? or should I use the 51060R with the anti drain back valve .. That a good price for those .. That comes out to $7.50 a filter

OK , what type of oil are you using ?

I have ran the Frams filters on all my boats and cars and never had a problem , but I heard  the Fram stories also

If you get a chance , get the number , but NO  hurry .. I think I know the one I want to get , but a few extra opinion never hurts ..

I should have enough room to get the 5 inch filters in the boat , I have that oil cooler adapter sticking down that cuts off some of my room ..

OK , Wix it will be for the filter . Now what about the oil you guys run .. I normally run Mobil 1 after the engine is broken in , but seriously thinking to just keep running the Rotella 15-40 this year ..

What is better about Wix versus Fram? I ran Amsoil oil and Fram filter in the jet and I run Royal Purple in the Sea Ray with a Fram filter. The jet has a 455 with an Eldebrock cam intake and carb and the Sea Ray has 350 Roller motor that is MPI. What should I be running. I know I am not anywhere near the HP levels you guys are, but I do want longevity and reliability.
