Place diverter for Berkely?

Thinking about the next upgrade for my Hawaiian daycruiser. Place diverter is first on my list. I'm wondering about the manual vs hydraulic vs electric. With the interior layout of the boat, the last two might be the least intrusive. What are some thoughts or gripes, coments, anything?

I have a manual, I like it. Does what I need it to do & there is nothing that can go wrong with it other than a cable. With the other you'll have pumps, switches, wiring, hydraulic lines, gizmos & doo-hickeys that can foul up on you. Buying one new & you won't have those worries for a very long while though I'd imagine.

Biggest complaints I have seen is they don't move fast enough or its hard to tell where they are at trimwise unless you get an indicator...  Biggest complaints I have seen regarding manuals is the cable can have or get slop in it & not travel up & down as well as it should, and the fact that you lose a little floorspace with the controller there.

Think most of it will boil down to personal preferance, I've only known one guy with a hydraulic diverter & I never heard him make any comments about it whatsoever. He disapppeared awhile back though, so can't get his input....

One other thing I've heard that you don't get as much up-travel as you do with a manual diverter. Not sure if that is actually true, just something I picked up along the way. May be worth asking about though when you call to get one?

All I know is the third notch is always the third notch.....and I refuse to look behind the boat to see the rooster to see how it is trimmed. I've watched guys haulin' butt, and spinning around every 2-3 seconds...to see things.. The hydraulic unit travels full up to down in about 2 1/2 seconds....I can't be counting 1 thousand one, one thousand 2.....not that coordinated. :smile23:  >prefer manual, but my Sanger won't have one. Boat works best flat. :smile12:

I was talking to one of the outboard guys on Sunday out at the river . He has a second battery on his boat that changes the voltage on his trim motor to 24volts , said it makes the trim go up twice as fast as when it is run on 12 volts . I asked about it being a dual voltage motor , and he said they all just use the 12 volt motors and it does not seem to hurt them . Even said some guys run thiers on 36 volts . I wonder if you could do the same thing with the diverter ? That would at least speed it up if that is the concern .

Trust me you aint gonna need it!  the Hyd. diverters are quicker than you think!

I had the manual, and changed to the hyd. with an indicator.
I like it better than the manual myself because I can keep both hands on the wheel and controll the diverter with a trim switch mounted on the stering colum.

Have never had an issue with the hyd.

i've run outboards and I/O ' s all my life and they are all hydraulic,  never used a trim indecator on any of them,  you know the boat is trimmed or not,  jets, are the same way and the rooster is just for show off

That's what I was thinking. I really don't want a cable running throught the middle of the boat. It will get in the way of my couch! :smile24:

I just bought one off ebay for $350 which I thought was kinda high for a used one until I saw the manual handle alone is $250.  It's a nice one, not the normal shifter style and black console.  The hydraulic is nice but is about $400

Hate to hijack the thread but my question is - the cable seal where it goes into the hull, what does that attach to at the back of the transom?  Looks like it is threaded but threads into what?

Where did you find a hydraulic diverter for $400?

I was talking about the hydraulic operating part, the pump, lines, wiring, switch, etc... for $400.  Compared to about $250-300 for the manual operating parts.

They don't seem to be that bad at Rex Marine! But I know they are not cheap. I just got done installing a radio in it last weekend. :smile15:

425 220HY Kit 425 120 Diverter including Hydraulic Kit $734.99  ea  rexmarine

that's just the basics,  i'm talking about all the upgrades
What upgrades?

well it that kit comes with the stainless steal lines for the inside of the boat instead of plastic lines, and the kit comes with the steering will control then that is a great buy,  but i have not found a kit that comes with all the upgrades that will make it a trouble free unit
