I run a business, a rather popular one, that repairs and sells car stereo amplifiers.  http://www.db-r.com dB-r Electronics.  Google us.

Anyway, I have this online repair ticket system, and sometimes we get the strangest requests and some good laughs.  See below:

I attempted to power amplifier (A car amplifier 12VDC) through a wall outlet (110VDC), a big spark went off and smoke came out of the amplifier..
I used a car battery to check if it was still working and no power.. just smokes ver badly every time I feed it power.
I'm wondering if I can get a price quote for the whole entire repair plus shipping.

Tell him to put the plug back into the wall and expose the wires on the oppsite end, when put it in his mouth to see if he is getting proper current.

The idiot doesn't know the difference between 120vac and 12vdc. Wow.

Murphys law will eventually catch up with that dude.

My response to that Knucklehead would be: tape up all the seams and try to keep the remaining smoke that's left in the box trapped inside it the next time you plug it into the wall.  The more smoke you let out of the box, the more difficult it will be to repair the box.

I knew you guys would get a kick out of it, LOL...  I pretended that I didn't think it was that odd that he plugged it to the wall outlet, and asked how he did it and asked for pics....  Let's see what he responds with!

THat is FUNNY.

I run a LARGE maintenace Section. I get some really cool complaints like that as well. It makes you smile at first, but then you realize these people drive, they procreate and generally pass their stupidity along to others somewhere down the line.

Good thing he didnt have any 277 or 480 around!!

I'm betting it is a 16 year old kid who for what ever reason lost his father at a very young age.  His mom has done the best she can to raise him with the limited resources available to her but she is no electrician.  With no father and no vocational programs in the schools these days the kid didn't stand a chance.  To top it off, now he gets ridiculed on the interweb by a bunch of people he doesn't even know.  Poor little guy.  :smile18:

J/K.  LOL.  What a dumb A$$.  I bet he won't do that again. LOL.

He hasn't gotten back to me yet, I was hoping he would describe the way he did it in detail and post pics of the inside of the amp...  It's probably on Ebay as "was working when uninstalled, as-is" and bid up to $300 already, LOL... Ebay
