Thats my 2nd cousin!  I have fished with him many times down in the Land Cut and in Baffin Bay.  He is a really nice guy.  He caught the gar about a week ago!

My grandparents lived on that lake for 25 years, there was always stories of big azz fish lurkin out there. Used to scare the shitt out of all us kids back then, lol.

Helluva deal thats fo sho!

There seem to be a lot in that area.  I remember skiing on Choke Canyon when I was a kid, and about a 4 or 5 ft aligator gar coming up and rolling on the surface about 10 ft from me!  Scared the poo out of me!

Back around 78 I was heading toward dam from State Park at Possum Kingdom in the Hondo flat....... cruising along about 35 or 40.  A big thud on bottom of boat and boat rocked like it was going to flip over.

I went on and turned around and behind me was a super large Garr like this one cut nearly half in two and he was boiling and rolling over and over............He was big sucker too.

only time that has ever happened.  Will get your attention though.........

and he did not hurt the prop.......... ha

They think it would have been a state record possibly a world record but he never got an official weight before he gutted it. At least that's what I read into the article.

those may be rare where yall come from but we(gonzales, La area)have something here called a gar rodeo and you can find over 100 of them that size layed in piles, they skin them and make fried gar balls and sell them at the rodeo.this year ill try to make it there and take pics so yall can see what i mean. they catch them with whole fish, alligator hooks and gallon jugs hooked to a very large trout line, most of the time they fill every hook on the line.

thats in monroe, nowhere near belle river or pierre part, its funny how every little town where a gar fish is caught has the world or state record. there are so many restraunts in south la claiming somebody has the state record, i dont think its recorded that well.
