best motors ever made

i have come to realize that the two best motors ever built are the early FORD model naturally aspirated 7.3 diesel and early ford 300. better known has the hot -water six. i see why ford stop making them and the reason why is. you dont have to work on them. my work truck 7.3 has 370,000 miles and has never had anything but a oil and air filter change, and glow plugs. i have had dozens of different hands driving it at work. the young punk kid type that dont care about the bosses junk. they cant even tear the ole 7.3 up..........just sayin

my mom drag raced a front motor rail with a 300 six that my grandfather and uncle built. I got to drive it at Ennis when i was 18yrs old. i ran a 10.02 at 134mph. Those motors have lots of torque!

hey! thats a good thought. put twin turbos on the 7.3 and some 8inch stacks. drop in the hydro. turn the pump up and watch the black smoke pour out the back going down the lake. crazy.gif

I don't want to pop your bubble, but the 292 straight six was a stump pulling powerhouse, with proper balance the motor could rev in the 7's and still stay together.  Now the 283, 327, 350, 427 small block has a pretty good record also, my buddy, which is into computers, smoke and mirrors, is looking at 1000 HP in a natural asperated 427 small block.  I personally love my big cubic inch motors.  Currently I'm running a Ford, trying to learn something new, and I must say I'm impressed with the results I'm getting.  I look forward to seeing how my Ford does against the Chevy crowd.  See you at the starting line, where the bull sh** stops.

are u sure about the 292 being a staright six? i know that there was a 200 and a 170 because i had a old falcon that started factory with the 170 then i put the 200 hundred in it and eventually the 300. i have been a bone stock ford man all my life and just now turning to the performance side of it. what i am seeing and hearing is: get it to breath.......  i'm sorry i thought you were talking about  a 292 being a ford crazy.gif duh!!!!!

No Problem, I was just saying both sides (Chevy vs Ford)  has there respective successes.  I too am trying to learn something new, but I have everything but a block and crank to go back to Chevy.

I have an F250 Super Duty with the 7.3 turbo diesel. It's the delivery truck for my appliance business. Several people drive it on a daily basis. As you know having employees drive a truck is probably the hardest work it will ever do. They don't care for it like you or I would, it's not their truck. All I've done to mine outside of normal mainitenance is change the alternator, the water pump, and an o-ring on the fuel/water separator. It's got 230k on the clock now and we're fixing to head out and pick up 15 more fridges this morning.

Awesome power and no breakdowns. The parts dept makes no money on those, so they had to change to the 6.0 liter.

When I was at the Ford house this past Saturday having the transmission fluid changed on my F-150, the guy told me that the 6.0L are the worst diesel engine they've made. He also said, like James above, that the 7.3L has had no problems and that Ford hasn't "Made any money off of that motor".

If you can get, or have, a 7.3L.....hold on to that mo fo.

One of my hotrod buddys is the service manager at the local Ford dealer, he said he has had 6.0's leave the showroom and come back on a hook the same day!! That would make ya feel good about your purchase! And my cousin and uncle make a good living working on ford diesels. But I agree the 7.3 is a very good engine, built by international if I'm not mistaken.

My old 2005 Harley Davidson F-250 had the 6.0 in it and I ran the hell outta that motor for about 10,000 miles before I sold it. never had an issue.....

Good run around motors, but not alot of pulling power in the 4drs. But havent seen alot of problems out of them, solid built engines for sure though. They run really well with a little bit of forced air added to them! Got a friend here that has a 4dr 2wd with a 5.3 and single turbo. Runs pretty good.

correct! the 7.3 is the international. and 6.0 stands for LEMON-LAW.

6.0 too much boost, not enough head gasket! With good headgaskets and ARP studs, they run great! But I like my 7.3l clap.gif

Dont think either of those power plant options would get out of there own way in a boat. Guess if you have a tug boat the 7.3 would be ok.  Dont recall seeing any fords in the hunt at the lake.  Think I'll stick with my lil Chevy :smile16:
