Carb mounting

Any advantage to mounting dual fours longitudinally or horizontally? Cars are longitudinally mounted so I’m curious why some boat assemblers decided to go with horizontal mounting.

I can't imagine there being any sort of performance gain or loss, etc being pointed one way or the other... I'd guess it would be more like making an easier install/hookup of fuel lines, linkage, etc.

Somebody with experience with dual carbs oughta have more info than me though 🥴

I agree. Mine are mounted longitudinally and I suppose I’ll keep them that way. Wanted to get this sorted out before I ordered a custom Dooley scoop. It’s one of those boat parts I want to buy just once.

I don't believe there is a performance difference. If you had to, you could run jet extensions on the rear bowls, but I don't know of any other possible issue.

There is absolutely none. No gains no losses. I tested this theory on a dyno years ago. On a race deal, where your changing jets, it’s way easier to pull the bowls when they are mounted sideways.

Thank you! I kinda figured it would be neutral in the end. Without having to pull the boat all over for different events necessitating jet changes, I’ll just stick with my longitudinally mounted configuration since it’s just a lake boat. I may re-jet once or twice but that’s it. Anybody got a discount code for Dooley so I can order a scoop? Lol

It would make jet changes way easier. I knew there had to be a logical reason! Thanks Stacey!
