Do the mufflers that Bassett offers for the OT headers work? Do they make that much difference?  :smile21:

they make you legal in places, little quieter, noticeable on long cruises id say.

You should still use hearing protection for the kids. The mufflers don't make that much difference.
Hearing Proction = check.
I think I am gonna try those stage 1 Silencer mufflers, Can't hurt I don't guess as long as I can run water through them. when It's "adult time" I can Remove them and Blast around right!

It's not so much for the leagal part, (altho thats a pluss) The mufflers are for the Young un's and the water is for the Chrome. Untill my Cousin get's his Jet, Ol' Uncle Becket has the fast boat and therfore I get the "thrill ride" job for the Young un's. Absolutly no problem with that! just don't want them deaf like me!  :smile17:

I've got collector mufflers on mine and it's still a loud mofo. I can't really tell any difference from my Bassett twistys. Maybe it's because it's a high compression motor...but I'm already deaf anyway so  think.gif

These are the baffles I have, made by Bassett:

126124.jpg

• Spacer is supplied for use in flared out collectors
• Noise reduction of up to 10 DBA can be expected
• 100-300 rpm loss is possible on larger horsepower engines
• These slide in and attach with a single bolt through the pipe
• Depending on noise regulations these may or may not get you legal
• All Stainless Steel construction
• 10" overall length

The few times I have run them, they quiet it down some... but not a whole lot.... The best way I can describe it, is they take the edge off that "crisp" exhaust tone of an open header, if that makes sense. It is a noticeable difference, but I don't know if it would be enough to necessarily protect the little ones hearing. More of a safeguard against the popo than anything.

This is what I was lookin at, Pullin the "crisp" out would help alot I think, Maybe not "quiet" but better. $450 is a chunk to spend if they Don't work though, Any body got some sitting around that I could try on mine to see if it's worth the money to me?  Bassett Twistys. I am going to Somerville on the 20th of Aug.

Damn right, $450 bux, whoah! I bought those baffles off ebay for like $60 bux, new on Rex Marines website they are $138...

I've seen these Shotgun Muffler deals, which reduce noise at slow speeds, but they open up when you mash the loud pedal, so they don't really seem like they'd do much muffling when you're on it. They look cool though.

Can read what they say about 'em here.. http://www.performanceboats.com/jet-boats/5157-noise-levels.html

Next time I know you're gonna be somewhere I am, let me know & I will sure bring my baffles along & let you try 'em.
