I sent a PM to George (PRO53) but will share with the rest of y'all, yeah it was a nasty time for John in the GFD days. Bad divorce only to go find a couple of more. LOL (John don't kill me, but I follwed your lead) Anyway, John got started in this boat racing thing about in 84 just before I got out of the Navy. He had a good friend that had gotten a hot boat and they started hanging out together and then John just had to get him one too. That was GFD, but we never got her to set right. Probably never had enough ponies for her to get happy. He sold her and bought a Sidescraft that was WAY lighter. Owens bros in Pearland did the motor in her and John named her "Religious Indecision". I tried to help as much as I could, but being a father took priority at the time. We used to go to Clear lake, actually the Turtle Club, and he would make passes. Funniest one was when the motor backfired through the scoop and he put it out by standing in front of the scoop and hugging it till he stopped feeling the warmth. (Never forget that one!)
Anyway, John eventually went on to license in EVERY propeller driven class in the SDBA, not something many have done. He ran every class from RR to TFH. He dominated the PGF ranks for many years till 2001 when Craig Caulk had him shoe the Nitrofish TAH. We took runner up that year in SDBA and had made several appearances in IHBA as well. hen John went on to shoe for Gene Hackett in the world's only twin screw flat, The ATTA Special. That's the red boat you see jumping out of the water. We tried to get her to take a set, but everytime the props got right she would come out of the water. Finally at Phoenix in 2005 he got her into the 7s but that was with him nearly crashing.
His next step was TFH and he loved that ride. Wolfie gave him a boat that he described as driving a Cadillac. John has been President of the NDBA and SDBA, class rep for many classes and has worked races from the gate to the tower.
Sorry for the long post, but several wanted to know John's history.
