Rotary, Zero feed back, had Rack in it. Cable was a little short (story of my life) had to go back and get longer one, waiting for rain now :undecided:Devilman said:Gas-Hole said:You can bet your A$$ it will keep raining, Washed my Sled yesterday and Bought a new steering system for it, started installing it yesterday only to find out that I need to cut a little on the dash for the new Helm to mount, Parked it under the Carport last night, get up this am to find that it is on the wet side of the Carport :smile29: on the bright side, I did get to go to Homo Depot and get some new tools for the job :smile16:

Yes sir, there are two types of Rotary, Regular and zero feed back, the regular will try to straighten out when you let go of the wheel, you have to hold it in a turn, Zero feed back stays where you let go of it, no fighting back. think of it as power steering Vs manual.Devilman said:Gas-Hole said:Rotary, Zero feed back, had Rack in it. zero feedback?
I wanna get a new set up as well. Mine has rotary.. tried a rack setup but didn't work well, so cleaned up the old stuff & put it back in. It turns smooth, but has more play in it than I really like.
Its on the to-do list anyway... :cheesy:

I dont know that a Jet will fight back, My rack system did not, it was just hard to turn, I have put a couple on outboards and like them allot, one finger steering, next best think to Hyd steering.Devilman said:Gas-Hole said:Yes sir, there are two types of Rotary, Regular and zero feed back, the regular will try to straighten out when you let go of the wheel, you have to hold it in a turn, Zero feed back stays where you let go of it, no fighting back. think of it as power steering Vs manual.
Learn somethin new every day, never knew there was 2 different types. Guess its something in the helm/gearbox itself that makes them different? Had mine all apart to clean all the old grease out of it, not much to it. It doesn't try & turn back straight if you let go of it (that I recall) Pretty much every time I was makin a turn, lettin go of the wheel woulda been a bad idea anyway, lol. Guess I will try it out on the lake sometime.

Yep, I pulled it out of the jacket and it looks like it was lubed with Tar, all the bushings in the helm are shot too, it was time.KONA said:Gas-Hole said:I dont know that a Jet will fight back, My rack system did not, it was just hard to turn, I have put a couple on outboards and like them allot, one finger steering, next best think to Hyd steering.Devilman said:Gas-Hole said:Yes sir, there are two types of Rotary, Regular and zero feed back, the regular will try to straighten out when you let go of the wheel, you have to hold it in a turn, Zero feed back stays where you let go of it, no fighting back. think of it as power steering Vs manual.

your cable was freezing up in the jacket, that's why it was hard to turn, when i got my boat same problem, oiled it a couple of times but each spring it just got harder to turn, then oiling didn't help, had to break down and put a new rack and pinion in it.... Man it was like driving with hydraulic steering for several years, now it's beginning to stiffen
just put a new rotary on my pushboat, it's nice too, i only replaced the helm, still using the cable that is several years old

Not raining here. I'm only about 4 miles away from the house and I'll roll slow, so it won't get dirty. Then drive Carole's truck back out here tomorrow. :cheesy:
