Anyone interested in this?

Yeah, figured you was gonna have a step by step on this deal.... So what ya using?

On the pedal itself, is it painted down in the grooves & where it says Sanger or just raw alum. Hard to tell in the pics...

started with a "conditioning" disc in a die grinder on the heavy corrosion, continued with 320 wet/dry paper by hand. Lunchtime I'll give it quick polish to see where I'm at. The pedal is rough cast, with paint in the grooves.... :undecided: It's gonna be hell.

Can't clean the pedal with some mild acid to get rid of any corrsion, then just follow up with an aggressive polish?

We've got some toilet cleaner here with hydrochloric acid in it, works pretty good on aluminum, just gotta make sure & rinse it all off. It worked wonders on those slots I got from George, lol...

What kind of shape is the paint in... I assume you're trying to save the paint?

To be honest, I really don't know where to start on the pedal, I'll try some acid on it, wanna bring some by? the paint is almost all gone anyway, so no prob. I may just polish the edges, and leave the body alone, as far as polishing goes...Can't get the Sanger dude part polished, it's surrounded and the original etching is not deep enough...so I just don't know.

If I can get someone to open the supply room, I'll run a bottle by to you.  :smile15: Cody's idea would probably be the fastest & least labor intensive, but if the etching of the Sanger emblem there in the center is not very deep, it may not work as well as it will in the grooves.

May be able to polish that center circle will a Dremel tool?

3M makes an ultra fine scotchbrite pad in the 2 1/4 size it's blue and there's another one that's grey.  (I don't remember which is finer). That would get it shiny in a hurry!

Looking at the pics fullsize helps get an idea of exactly what you're dealing with there.... I dunno, put acid on it & scuff it down, I don't think the acid will mess with the paint , its not THAT strong, unless the paint is loose or flaky or something.  Looking at it, I honestly don't know if you got those ribs in the pedal polished if you'd even be able to tell, they are so narrow. May just scuff 'em down to get them bright & just polish the outside surfaces...

CHROME IT !!

or powder coat it .
When i get time and money , anything on my boat that needs polshing will be powder coated , I HATE polishing ...
Polish for hours and within a few hours on being on the lake , I need to repolish it again . That sucks .. Chrome or Powder coat for me .. I am too lazy to keep it that clean .. I have to admit, it look good when you see one all polished up , Just look at JimPlace boat , I can only wish mine would look that good .. I am envious Jim ... +
