Was reading about the SBDA River Racer class.. So I guess any Joe can run as long as you can run an 18 or better and pass the tech inspection?? Kinda like regular ole bracket racing, but with boats...

bracket racing on water is what most of it except the bad boys that run fast...

river racer would be fun to run in ..you can dial in your index and run against everyone in that bracket group.. Stagered start .. You don't have to have a Lifeline jacket , ballistic short and  driver suit .. I think just a good jacket , helmet , eye protection

I bought the lifeline jacklet , ballistic short , driver suit , now I need the helmet , glove and some good shoes that does not float .. Then need a few more things on the boat ( rope deflector, throttle stop ) and I could go try to run my boat maybe in the 10 second bracket or the 11 second bracket  .. I think I got everything else covered ..  except I don't have my big engine finished .. maybe a couple more months ..

you have to have a kill switch that hooks to driver like on a jet ski and one in back of the boat that kills all power, and they did check it in tech on my cousin's boat that only ran the 16's. I'm going to try and run at least 4 of the SDBA events this season.

I would think that they would require at least a lifeline jacket and ballistic shorts for anything running around 100 or better. It doesn't matter what class you are running in, a crash at 100+ is a crash at 100+.

I looked up the rules for all bracket racing classes and this was copied & pasted from it.

 Ballistic Shorts - All open boats running 11:99 and quicker. All PWC's running seventy mph (70mph) and above will be required to wear ballistic shorts.

Life Jacket - All drivers, while on the water, must wear an approved racing type flotation jacket. Drivers in boats which run less that 100 M.P.H. may wear an impact type life jacket. River Racer & PWC lifejackets must be coast guard approved or racer type lifejacket.

Boat Equipment
All boats, regardless of engine, must have the following items inspected per the rules and regulations set forth under “Safety Equipment - Professional and Sportsman.”
 General
 Bilge Pump – Same as Professional class
 Boat Number
 Bow Eye
 Drive Line Cover/Loop
 Fire Extinguisher
 Flywheel Cover
 Fuel Shut-Off Valve
 Holding Rope Deflector
 Impeller
 Kill Switch
 Master Cut off – Same as Professional class
 Paddle
 Prop Nut Keyed, Wired, or Double Nuts
 Safety Collar
 Safety Chains– Same as Professional class
 Throttle Return Springs

River Racer class is for boats running 12-18 seconds. A lot of that stuff is not required. I think Billy is right in that you only need a helmet, eye protection and a standard vest to run the class. Nothing in that class will be able to break 100. If so you are in the wrong class. You're probably talking about boats that can go 50-70 mph tops.

You do need all that in RR. We raced my cuisine's boat at marble falls  last season, it only ran 64mph and they made sure we had everything on that list on the boat.

Thank you for clearing that up. I did not see a clear definition for what bracket "River Racer" fell into. That would make sense then. This will all be new to me and I am trying to figure it out.

yeah you wouldnt think you would need all that on a 64mph lake boat, but really it wasnt that hard to get boat ready. We got the kill switch from jet ski dealer, main power on/off switch off my old drag car.

That would be fun to do , if I can get the funds to do it . I will try and make a run at the Ft.Worth race or the Waco race .

One race membership is 100.00 plus like 350.00 entry( nor sure on fees )plus extra passes for pit crew and four wheeler and extra vehicle. It is expensive to go play , but I think I would like to try and do one race just to say I did it and see what the old flat bottom will do on the clock ..

EO : This would be fun if all of the locals would show up and run one race ..

You do need all that in RR. We raced my cuisine's boat at marble falls  last season, it only ran 64mph and they made sure we had everything on that list on the boat.

Everything on that list should already be on all boats with the exeption of a kill switch, emergency shut off, boat number and two throttle return springs. And I'll tell you this, if I have to cut a hole in my hull to put an electrical cut off on the outside of my boat then I won't be racing it.

I have a Perko switch inside the right side battery compartment that cuts them both off that is accessable from the outside of the boat. The rules say the switch doesn't have to be outside, but rather the switch has to be accessable from outside and clearly marked, and can not be located in the engine compartment or drivers compartment.

Dead man switch I planned on installing anyway.

Second return spring is easy. EDIT: The addendum shows only one throttle spring required, but it has to be on the carb shaft. The one in the hoot foot won't cut it.

Not sure how they do the numbers on a non race boat. At any other bracket race you get assigned a number when you pass tech and put it on the windshield with shoe polish.. Any info on this would be good.
