Interesting Memorial Day weekend. Didn't get to the Cove RV Resort till Saturday. Rob, my host, was bringing a load of furniture out of California for his inlaws. A 2 hour drive turned into 5 hours because of an overturned 18 wheeler. So we didn't put in the water Saturday. Sunday was windy as hell but warm so we launched and went down river 23 miles with various stops along the way. There is a lot less boat traffic down river then up, from the I10 bridge. I put 46 miles on the boat and used 18 gallons of fuel. 2.6 mpg.

We had a good day on the river with 4 boats in our convoy. Monday i came back to Phoenix early to beat the traffic. Next weekend we are all trailering to Parker and spend the day up there.

#1. In "Hippie Cove". I didn't see any hippies, mostly families.
#2. The filet part of steak and lobster Saturday night.
#3 and 4. More of the Hippie Cove people.
#5. I got to replace that Oring next weekend since I leave the boat at the Cove Resort.

Family Cove just doesn't give quite the same impression as a place called Hippie Cove :smile16: Looks like you having a heckuva time out there, the pics are nice. :smile17:

So far the weekends have been fun but during the weeks I do get a little bored. Soooo, with that in mind and because Black has been bugging me to get on his bowling team, I bought a ball, shoes and bag and took my first lesson yesterday.

It's a lot harder than it looks. I'm going to be practicing during the week. Between going to the gym and bowling that should get me to the weekends.

Bowling can be pretty fun. We used to go pretty often, but haven't been in awhile actually. We have all the gear as well, cuts the cost down if you go very much. Not a bad way to pass the time. Be inside in the a/c... plus I'd assume there are adult beverages available if so desired. The bar at our local bowling alley makes a dang good spicy Bloody Mary :smile17:

Well this was quite an interesting weekend.

Saturday we had a 4 boat caravan up to Parker. It took about an hour to get to the launch ramp at the Blue Water Casino. The drive takes you across desert but there is a lot of farming because they get the water from the Colorado river. When we arrived at the ramp there was every kind of law enforcement they have in the area including a fire truck. Seems two people drowned Friday and the were looking for the bodies.

After getting launched we idled over to a big sandbar and had a few drinks and Subway sandwiches for lunch.

Then we decided to go up river all the way to the dam. 14 miles. We stopped at Pirates Den so the others could see the place and know that you can launch there for free. The ride was bumpy but not to bad. The further we got up river the worse it got. Between the wake board boats and jet skis it was like boating in a washing machine. We made it past Sundance and Roadrunner all the way to Foxes. They were all packed with people and boats. Just past Foxes we pulled into a beach to talk about what the hell we were in. We decided to head back to the sandbar at the Casino. We made it back there and had a few more beers and then put the boats on the trailers and headed back to Blythe. Got back there around 5:30 and started the grill to do some chicken.

Note to self and all others: Stay the hell off Parker on Saturdays, especially in the early part of the year. I was out there in the fall and it was very nice with little traffic.

I posted 3 pics from my phone. I tried to post three more and got a "failed security check" message. I will try later.

First pic is me waiting for the rest to get the boats gassed up. Second is the fields out in the desert. Miles and miles of the same. I saw hundreds of hay bales along the way. That seems to be the main crop. Third pic is the sandbar with the Casino in the background.

Sunday my daughter (Kim) here friend (Amanda) and I put the boat in at the Cove and went up river 13 miles to the dam. Completely different experience then Saturday. Almost no boats or jet skis and smooth water. Very nice cruising water. We floated down river for about 3 miles then back to what they call Jungle Beach for awhile. Got back to the Cove around 2 PM. I leave the boat at the cabin at the Cove since I have it rented 6 weekends in a row.

First pic is the dam above the Cove. Second is the girls, my daughter is on the left. Third is a field of alfalfa waiting to dry then gathered up in square bales. I didn't see any round bales like we do back home. All square but a few different sizes.

I made it back to Phoenix and now waiting for next weekend to do it all over again. Tough life but someone has to live it.  :smile28:

Water sure looks nice. The river have a noticeable current? Haha, yeah, washing machine seems to describe it pretty good from all I've read.

We were floating at 3 mph with the  current but against a breeze.. Where the river passes under the I10 bridge is a choke point. The  current is probably 7 mph there.

After talking to the guy in Blythe that replaced my O ring I decided to have the rear seals and bushing replaced on the pump shaft also.

Got into Blythe last night and had the boat at his shop at 9 AM. He said it would be ready at noon.

In the mean time I rode downriver to McIntyre Park to check it out since next weekend is the big SoCal deal at that park. They only have 6 open sites for trailers but a lot of tent camping sites. All the other trailer sites are taken buy those that have a year round set up like my friend Rob at The Cove. Had lunch on a picnic table under a tree by the river, quite nice. Oh, temp is 95 with 17% humidity.

I finally figured out how the fields are irrigated. They flood them. I notice all the fields have a 12" to 18" berm around them. I also saw canals and sluice gates to do just that.

First pic is the canals. There are many smaller ones off this big one.
Second is where the hay is stored under cover or a tarp at least.
Third is hay waiting transport to storage.
Forth is the view from the picnic table at McIntyre.
Fifth is inside the park. As you can see these are no longer mobile or temporary. Almost all are covered by the dark screen like material.

It was a quiet weekend. I only put 11 miles on the boat Saturday. We went up river to Jungle Beach and hung out for about 4 hours then cruised back to the Cove. The water is warming up fast with these 100+ degree days. I actually got all the way in and it was refreshing!

I left the boat at the shop in Blythe. He's going to replace the two cables that go to the Place Diverter. That should be all that needs to be done for a few years, I hope. I now have a new Oring, rear seals and bushings and cables. Since Mike moved to Lake Buchanan I figured I would take advantage of this local guy while I'm here.

First pic is doing what we do best. Hanging out drinking beer and talking about boats and motors.
Second is just showing the light crowd and Jungle Beach. Everybody is probably getting ready for Father's Day weekend. Very light boat traffic for a Saturday.
Third is Bloody Marys for breakfast, including left over shrimp from last nights rib eye and shrimp dinner. We do eat well on these weekends.
