Bracket Racing For Boaters.

Check it out... I've been looking around other boards and was looking over the racing board when I saw there will be some SBDA races not too far away from us here in the North. One in Waco and one in Fort Worth. There's one in Marble Falls also, but that's a little farther for us to go.

Looking over the SDBA rule book, there is a class we can all race in. River Racer.. It's bracket racing for boat. You make some time passes, set your dial, then run it without breaking out. I think the time bracket is from like 12 to 18 seconds in the 1/4, or it might be 1,000 feet.

Page 46 talks about some of the rules and what does and does no apply to River Racer.

The Waco race is the weekend after Broken Bow. I would be interested in going just to watch at that event on the second day at a minimum.. The race in Fort Worth is September 17th and 18th. Count me in to represent NTJBC at that event..

Marble Falls is deep in the Central division on August 13th and 14th. We could get some good North vs. South racing at that event.

Sr. thought they had switched to 1,000 foot races a few years back. Looks like they reference the 1/4 in the rule book several times, which is 1,320. A little more than a football field longer.

I'd be interested in a day trip to Waco just to check it out.  Might be interested in participating in Ft Worth as well.

the boat racing was more work than the car racing. (at the track)  You have to put your boat in and out of water every pass, also no one on boat pit crew can drink until the boat is done making passes for the day. Its still fun tho.

YEah, I saw that in the rules too, boat in and out on every pass. If you could leave your truck on the ramp it wouldn't be all that bad.

It worked pretty smooth at Marble Falls last year when I attended. (Just watching) They had a ramp at the start and finish with the pits in the middle. Teams would leave the pits with boat driver loaded and ready, drop the boat in at the start, tow truck would go to finish line to load up, soon as the pass was done the boat pulled directly on the trailer and taken to the pits to get ready for the next run.  Marble Falls appeared to be very well organized and efficient at running the boats through. I would imagine this is the way most of the races are done.

you pretty much have to designate someone to put boat in and then take truck and trailer to the out ramp at the end of track and wait on boat and driver to make the pass. they have people in water at both ramps to take boat on and off so that's cool.

Oh, ok.. So for a bracket guy like me or Matt that are going to make passes and probably do no work between rounds our "race crew" would be a guy to move the truck from ramp to ramp, then park it in the NTJBC pits.

I guess they don't want any bad images in the public eye in case of an unfortunate event. Especially now a days when everything get recorded on someone's cell phone. Any drags I used to go to were the same way. They don't want the drivers drinking. I think that's probably in every rule book in any form of motor racing.

The drinking goes for anyone on the team....big no-no... and be prepared for the entrance fees, insurance fees and such...fyi it cost me about a grand last race I went to...room, food, fees.....for 3 time slips....It's not for everyone.

That's why I'll do the Fort Worth race for my first time out. Don't need to spend the night and can pack a lunch. I'm prepared for whatever the fees are once just to say I did it. If I can get my business rocking in 2011 I may get a motorhome and think about doing the entire series the following year. One step at a time though.. Fort Worth in September with a day trip to Waco in July to get an idea of how it goes.

I'd like to find a way to get five bouys and four lengths of 100 meter rope and about a hundred clamp on floats for the rope to make our own 1/4 pratice course we can use a stop watch on to practice.
