So all you gun guys, and gals if any. What would be a great all around pistol for a first time purchaser? I am also considering a concealed carry course, not because I want to carry a weapon, but because I want to know about the laws and gun safety! I'm not looking for something that can drop a bear or split a car block! Also I am looking for affordable ammunition! Yes Patch wants a gun! :smile30:

You're gonna get a lot of feedback here....I prefer revolvers. Less cleaning, maintenance....always fires, never "hangs".
.38 cheap to shoot. I can hit things with a revolver. .357 s&w stainless....keep the magnums for protection, , shoot .38 for plinking. .02

I'm selling my deaughters Smith and Wesson 40.  Its a concel carry weapon, small frame, nice piece.  $350.00 She wants a 44 mag like here Mom.  Go to my facebook page to see the weapon, it's laying on the table.

Well my .02 is a 9mm the choice of brand would be yours because of your hand size all guns are different, I love my Beretta 9mm but you might think its too big, and go with a glock r something. The 9mm is the most accurate hand gun and long rang & has the Knock down power also, mine I can hit paper at 100 yards, the bigger guns 40, 45, etc.... Are great also but for more short rang. Also a 38 is a great gun but its all about you and what you want! i wouldn't go no bigger though, and the 357 is a just a beast but I love them too.. There ain't many I don't!

PS. now guys I'm Not saying anything bad about the other guns (i know people get all defensive on there guns lol)I own just about all of them! Lol I just like the 9mm for a all around gun!

When I was a Deputy, our Department highly recommended Glocks. I have a Glock 22 ( full size 40 cal ) and a off duty Glock 27 ( small frame 40 cal ). 40 cal is a great all around ammo, but prices keep going up, so painful to practice on the wallet. Glocks of 40 cal and up have larger grips as most brands, especially is a double stack magazine. If you have a small hand, go with a single stack gun. Not as wide. The 9mm Glock is a wonderful weapon, easy to shoot, and simple to clean.  9mm is decently prices and a good all around caliber. I only recommend the generation 3 Glocks thou, not the Gen 4!!
I also have a Beretta 92 -9mm ( old military sidearm ) and a 70 series Colt 1911 (.45). Of all the guns Glocks are the easiest to use in a panic situation as they just have a trigger lock. Pull the trigger and it shoots.
Revolvers are a great home defense weapon. If you get a misfire, just pull trigger again.
Anyway, do your own homework and get the gun that works for you!!!
My .02 is just worth .02.  :smile27:

Go to a local gun range that rents guns and shoot some to see just what you like, a gun you shoot well and can handle is the gun you need. Not a gun that looks good and you can not shoot. If you lived closer I would say come buy and I will let you shoot some of mine and see what you like. j.j.

Me and my wife have guns I have a 45 and
My wife has a 380 my wife likes the 380
because she has hands like a 12 year old
Small hands and light on the trigger pull
i like the 45 . Cal 1911 but I is a big boy
And likes 44 mags but they don't push
Me around , best bet is to go to a indoor
Shooting range that rents guns they will
Have lots if guns to rent that way you
Can test drive it befor you buy.

Patch,

Go to Top Gun, they are about 4 blocks off of Chimney Rock close to Hwy 59.
They have just about every hand gun made and you can shoot on the premisis.
All of the guys in the store are Instructors and can help you a lot with your choice.

Tactile firearms is the place they have all the latest have the nicest range in Houston area and the guys there all know what's up. Glocks suck cops might carry them but they suck the best bang for buck is a Ruger they shoot great and they are tough and never fail. I like 45 better than 9 but its your call both rounds similar in price. 40 is a great round but ammo double 45 or 9 and with the rising ammo costs definite consideration. You really need to see what works and the guys at tactile will work with on the range finding what works for price and fit. Wheel guns are nice and they are very accurate hard to beat a 626 for off the shelf accuracy but are 5 or 6 rounds what you want. I love 1911 style have a couple Kimbers can't beat these but these are expensive you are better for starter getting a Ruger they are light and carry nice.

Thinking about attending some gun shows! Kind of educate my self on some of the models. Going to a range/gun shop sounds like a great idea! Thanks for all the info! clap.gif

My persona favorite is the Glock 19 9mm.

X2 on a Glock 19. The military uses 9mm ammo so it will ALWAYS be plentiful.

Glock 17 is an option also, with a 30 round clip...
