Well the saga continues on this boat. I had intended to swap out the hardware on the engines and install the new one this last weekend but after inspecting the boat closer it looks like I will be replacing the transom on it. While I am in there I guess I will replace the gimbal ring, trim solenoids, and possibly the steering arm. Since the motor won't be going in right away and I have a fresh set of old school 202 camel hump heads laying around, I am thinking about throwing those on with a cam swap since I am in this deep already.  I am guessing that should give me somewhere around an extra 75-100hp (give or take.) I am just trying to figure out a good cam configuration that will work with the stock Mercruiser exhaust. So much for a quick & cheap way to get back on the water!!!! I am thinking of naming the boat SNOWBALL. LOL!!!!!

Damn man, the very definition of the domino effect isn't it. Kinda part of the deal when buying used I have found all too often it seems. Hate to hear it, but good you finding things now & able to correct them before getting out on the water & using it once or twice only to tear it all back down. This way at least you'll know everything is done & done right. :smile17:

Man that sucks, but you will know what you got when you are done! It's still better than working on the floor of the V-drive!

It is kind of in my nature to get carried away with a project and go a little over board but this one just had a lot of little surprises I wasn't ready for. Like my buddy that rebuilt the drive said "you didn't really under estimate the boat, you over estimated the capabilities of the previous owner." I have been buying & building used stuff for so long that I usually come out pretty well but every once in a while one of them will bite you.

Man I hate reading this..... but I know how you feel. A simple engine rebuild led me to a complete rebuild of my boat a few years back.....when you peel away one layer of the onion, more issues always arise.

Glad to read you're not brushing the issues you've found under the rug....do it right the first time, every time is what I'm constantly telling my boys.

Man that sucks! I hate to say I know what your going threw, but i went threw the same crap with my boat one thing after another now there's not a single piece that's not been gone through and new including transom and stringers the only thing left is the hull itself and it's been repaired in a few places!
