75 psi dropping to 60 psi? Whats wrong with that? It doesn't worry me unless it drops below 10 psi, anything above that is great. Unless its idling, if its idling 10 psi doesn't bother me either. :smile15: :smile13:

Seriously though, I have heard LOTS of bad things about Fram oil filters as well... I've always run WIX filters cuz I get 'em at work, but after reading about Fram failures on a couple different boards, seems to be pretty accepted that WIX filters are a pretty good filter. Kind of lucked out that way for me I guess....

I agree no worries on the 15 psi drop .................but 10 psi @ idle I would be worried
and the fram filter with HV oil pumps is a big no no ...............My buddy david went through a brand new motor cause of a fram filter  :smile14:I use K&N..... just my .02  :smile13:

10 psi per 1000 rpm is what I've always heard was acceptable so I abide by it. The Dude abides... :smile13:

Had a Chevy few years ago with a 400 in it, runnin down the road had 20-25 psi, stop at a light it drop to 5-7. On a good manual gauge it was showing this, so it kinda freaked me out at first, but my old man said if it ain't fluctuating from that run it.  Ran its ass of for several years & continued to run after I sold it....

K&N filters, damn high roller..... :smile15: :smile22: :smile13:

Oil viscosity might have something to do with it. I agree that with that kind of pressure you don't have to worry! I am trying to tie up some loose ends so I can get down there sunday. Would like to meet up with everybody. I know to go to loves and ask them which way Sid went!

Go south under the the 2 highway bridges (not the railraod tressel to the north)When you pass under the second hiway bridge there is a big cove on the left we will either be there or a little further down in the middle of the river on the island.Stay in the middle of the river as soon as you go under the second bridge. Also before you get to the island stay right as it is shallow in the middle.I can meet you at loves if you know what time you will be there.  :smile15: :smile15:

Yeah it just bugs me..and worried a bit about air in the oil has a new K&N on it now but its running through a cooler and remote filter. My machinist recomends the fram racing or wix racing as they flow better than the K&N. I have never liked fram but the new hp racing filters are good. I agree that 60 psi should be plenty but it runs 75 all the time even at idle untill I put the hammer down. The only time I have seen an engine drop pressure under load like that is when bearing clearances were excessive or one spun.  The machinist (Tim Morgan) says this is not good and to get it handled ! has a rear sump steffs fabricated pan with the crank swiper and all running straight 30
kendall gt1 tried a couple more qts. no help. going to bypass the B.S. in the oiling system and add a manuall gauge, may have an oil cooler for sale soon.

I would definately try a mechanical guage. I have a oil pressure tester that I can bring with me if I can get there sunday. Let me know that way you don't need to buy a guage.

I've gotten Wix filters at O'Reilleys here in Victoria before, so I figured it be the same anywhere? I've also heard Napa Gold were some good filters as well, no personal experience with those though.

I've used the Napa gold and they seem to work fine. I think they are made by Wix anyway. :smile15:
