LOL, I know what you mean, I do the same thing. I was thinking you had mentioned that it was a different set of plates, cause unless those zoomies are just really short it was sitting down in the boat some. It'll give you something to work with anyway. Looks like your scoop may be taller than your wing.

Hes gonna charge 500 to lay gel on the floor, will be shinney but not as shinny as I want. He said I could come back and color sand and buff. Or I can get it back from him with no gel. Then I guess I could sand and spray durtec and then clear. Is there any clear I could spray over the gel? What ya think since the boat will be mostly blue with the yellow stripes, what color should I do the floor? Anybody opinions?

They really know thier stuff over at North West Fiberglass , I have a pair of jet skis over there right now . They are alot more reaonable than anyone else I have done buisness with lately , and do a much nicer job . I asked about a full set of stringers and transome for one of my boats  that I was going to build for Bonnie and he said he could do them for $1500 . The only other bid I got was for $2k and the other bid was from a less professional shop , hard choice huh  ?

Actually that is not really true , I got two other prices come to think of it . The second was from Randall's fiberglass guy and he said $1500 as well . I had forotten about his bid . THe $2k bid was another person locally who has a tiny shop and does less than average work .

Yea I havent decided yet if I am gonna gel the floor or redo it to look like the orignal wood look. A bud of mine said it would bring more money if I were to sell it later with the orignal finish. So I am still up in the air.I am just ready to finish up some projects. I always said I would have my model a done before I was 40, I only got a year and a half. I better hurry up  The new house takes all my time though.

The floor is personal cnoice , I like the old school way myself . But one thing is for certain , if you ever sell the boat you are going to lose money on it . If you build a boat like the Hondo , and do it right like you are trying to do , it will cost more to build than it will sell for in the end .

Na I want loose any money. I do all my on work and I get stuff cheap  :smile15: Ask all my buddys :smile15: I am pushing around 5000.00 in it already. But thats a full roller cam setup, merlin heads, all blower stuff in a bb chevy.I have a feeling I will have around 10000.00 in it when I am done.I can get my money back out of it. It is a Tdeck, and also a sprint.I have almost 9000.00 in a 521 stroker motor in the omega. Thats the boat I will loose coin on.The hondo want go anywhere when I am done. Gonna keep it. :smile15:

Can't lose any money until you sell it . If you finish it for $10k you will  be doing good though , it should be worth more than that finished . Unless gas keeps going up , then you might have to trade it for a tank of gas for the other boat .

I'd keep the floor original or close to it, especially if you're going through the trouble to re-do it as the way that other dude had it when he was racing it....

If you are still doing that, that is....

Oh yeah, that thing about the new house? Get used to it, it ain't gonna be over anytime soon, lol.... You just have to figure that into the equation is all....

Yea I will proably do the bilge area in gel, and the sides and then leave the wood floor. I sure which I could find a pick of the boat blue. Hell went to lowes the other day and spent 1800 in light fixtures and ceeling fans
Shit is adding up.WORKIN WITH CONTRACTORS SUCKS.I am gonna change the blue color up alittle. I was thinking something like the old irock blue with metal flake? Gonna keep the yellow with the lime green outlines. At least I have a garage big enogh to paint in now  :smile15: Well after I push a cat out or two  :smile23:

Haha, it doesn't take long at all for that stuff to add up, ask me how I know.  But, the end result is all worth it! :smile15:

6 or 7 years from now, when you are maybe about halfway done, you will step back & realize how nice the place is now & you are glad you decided to make the improvements. Then the thought will hit you that there is more to do & you'll have to go sit down & drink a beer or 5, lol......

Can't go wrong with the metalflake. :smile20: The paint that was on there was so hammered, its hard to say what it really looked like, I wouldn't go as dark as it was either. The paint on my old big truck was a cool shade of blue, just called Medium Blue Metallic, it was a early 90's Buick color.....  :lipsrsealed:

Yeah, don't paint the cat, bad enough you tried to sand on one of them, lol...

The guys over at Northwest fiberglass were telling me about a place in Pasadena where you can still get all the old school metal flake like the boats used to come with . You could do the brighter blue like the Irocs had , and be able to to get the big metal flake to match .

I like flake but I dont know about this color. I want to back the way it was but I am undecided.I like big flake but not for this project. Eastwood sells a nice agitator gun for around 500.00. Keeps the flake a movin for even flow  :smile15: I was thinking of a nice candy blue also, but I have never sprayed a candy. What ever I spray it will look good. Might not be an award winner but will look nice and I can say I did it.I like a solid too because easy to touch up. The pick of my bug I did. I built it from a pile ,suicide doors, 58 cad tailights, painted it under my carport, put plastic around the outside, misted water on the ground with a water hose, it was a cool 58 outside, PPG acrylic enamel, 1 stage. That bug turned out very nice, was very proud of it.

I was over at Northwest Fiberglass the other day . I asked about your Hondo to see if it was there yet . The guys seem like they are really looking forward to getting to work on it for you . Those guys over there are awesome . I am sure you will love the results of thier work . So , when is it going over there ? Right now they have a really different looking jet boat over there , Hawian I think . It has a  half of an engine cover , but the motor is not covered just the area around the motor . It also has a swim deck on the rear that kinda goes around the pump . Really a neat looking old boat .
