You seem to know a lot about driving a Miata, I'll tell Carole to ask you for tips. I think the other day when you were telling me about "one of your buddys" having a Miata & all the custom stuff they did to it, you were really talking about yourself. Fess up, lol....

Well moved the flat to the new house today. Just set the motor in it for the haul, motor has to mount up taller than in the pics , just a little. The scoop is just a scoop I made just messing around, gonna make a smaller version to run. Man I cant wait to start back on it  :smile15:

Are you going to run the motor like that and drive off the front ?
Setting it up as a circle boat :smile15: Circle boats run of the balancer to help them turn left in the corners.

I've seen v-drives setup that way before  , but never knew they were supposed to be for circle racing . How does running the motor the other way around make any difference on cornering ? It seems like it wouldn't matter .

In circle racing they turn left so the torque of the motor mounted dampner forward helps dig the left chine in better so it will grab on the corners. When the engine is driving off the flexplate end it torques the left side up so the chine won't grab in the corners. Trust us for now it works and then try and grab a ride in a boat of each type this summer and you'll understand it.

That makes sense , I guess if I ever race George I will have to make sure that we are turning RIGHT  :smile12: . Probably still won't have a chance  :smile21:

What are you running?

My flatties is set up as straight line only (actually 1000' right now). Drives off the flywheel end, a single shallow 3" skag, a 10" narrow wedge rudder. It steers and drives fine for crusing but if you ever driven a circle boat there's a MAJOR difference especially on the left hand turn.

Those circle boats turn on a dime. We were at Plowmans last year and JJ gave Aron a ride and abought threw him out.  :smile23:  My flatty should run real good, hopefully in the 800hp range  :smile15:

Mine is a '66 Stevens flat bottom . Right now it has a mild 390 in it , and has no chance of out running Pro's Hondo . I might be changing over to a Chevy sometime in the next year or so though , and will likely build a little more power into it when I do . There are several pics here somewhere , and I will be taking a few more in the next few weeks .

George, that thing is starting to look really good! :smile15: Most of the competition circle boats I have seen run the scoop backwards to reduce the chance of taking water in from the turn. I have watched Tony (Hangfin) Scarlata drive the crap out of a few of those circle boats and it's a blast to see. Nothing like watching a blown alky flat approaching 90 in the straightaway and then throwing it around on a dime and doing the same thing in the other direction. All I gotta say is hang on! :smile22:

I have found everything else cheap for this boat, If I could find an alky hat , with everything cheap, I would run alky  :smile15: When I have money to spend on it.  :smile15: I am gonna run another scoop on the motor, just one won this on Ebay for 50.00  :smile15:
