2.4= no interference, better range, and no worries about anyone else playing on your channel.

So mine seem to work, & I'm only be sinking a limited amount of $$$ into these things, I'd be better off putting the $$$ towards something else then.

Thanks! Now if I could figure out whats up with this Tekin ESC. Which is also odd cuz I don't recall every buying it, I had a Team Novak Roost'r in it last I remember.

Duane, you been up there to Rother's place a lot more recent than I have, is it worth goin up there for parts & stuff? They didn't seem to keep much around back when I was runnin my stuff, course its been awhile since I've been there.

I wouldn't buy a low wing trainer for a first plane! The high wing is a much more stable platform. The Cub is probably the most popular kit. The 2.4 ghz radio system is king. If you are going to fly at Brent's place, you want the strongest landing gear, and large tires wouldn't hurt. The 4 cycle engines are usually the most reliable ( Tim's not included ). Once you have flying down, the low wings can be very fun, but definitely not an ideal trainer. I prefer the ugly stick. They take a beating, and can be extremely maneuverable if that's what you want. Plus you want something with a tail wheel, not tricycle geared. They wouldn't last long out there. Just my opinion. :smile30:

That looks pretty much bullet proof also! My idea of a trainer is something you have the highest chance of not turning into sticks  on your first flight! :smile30:

Exactly!

I was training a friend with one and, he was on like his 3rd or 4th solo flight when near disaster struck.  He ran square into a barbed wire fence.  Hit it perfect.  The airplane bounced backwards!  :smile26:  NO DAMAGE!

I think the term utility fits! Plus if you did crash, easy to fix. Crashing is eminent, and buying replacements gets spendy. Buy what you can fly and repair!

Speaking of which.  I have seen a sturdy birdy destroyed!  It appeared radio contact was lost, the throttle went to full, and the plane made a bee-line straight down from over 200 ft!  We had to get a shovel to dig out the engine.  The wing was not hurt but, the rest was trashed.  The guy built a new one out of some plastic gutter down spout material.  Worked great!

I want a rtf....or someone's used kit plane for a starter. I don't want to take the time & effort to build it for the first crash. crazy.gif

plus still have to buy engine, electronics, etc. think.gif

Check Craigslist! I've found it is tricky how you do searches also. ( rc r/c) Sometimes things don't show up. I'm joining an Rc club here in Magnolia. I'll keep an eye open for screaming deals!

Hey Duane this is what i learned on years ago and it is very forgiving! you can set it up very mild for starts and progress to pretty radical. And yea the trike landing gear was not all that on the dirt so what i did on mine was move up the rear gear right behind the engine and removed the front gear. for the tail hell i just strapped on a stiff wire and made a sure enough taildragger.

Just dont go under sized on the engine,,if it says 40 go 40 or 50,,it will be a dog underpowered.
also mine saw several crashes over the years until i retired it,,but the nice thing about ARF plane like this one is the boxed cabin! its very strong made from thin plywood and very easy to fix on the field long as you got some 5 min epoxy and super glue!

LOL when i retired my trainer it was running a 60 size engine because it had gained so much weight from the repairs,,,,but it still flew with the rest of em, and all i was out was $ for epoxy.
