Looks like I will be going with a 5.3 , carbed with the MSD setup . I would like to pickup a used intake if anyone sees one for sale anywhere . If I cant find a intake I will be ordering the full kit to do the swap . I have some OT pipes for logs that I think I will use on it for right now , just need to find logs . Anyone know what you have to modify to use the 351c logs ? I heard you have to drill the log , another person told me to drill the head .

Wasted Income drilled the head to match the log.  That seems to make more sense to me.  The logs are harder to find than the heads.  If you ever decide to sell them they will have more value being un-modified.

That does seem to make sense . From what I understand there is only one bolt hole that needs to be modified , and it should not be that big of a deal to drill and tap the hole . Do they drill to standard depth ?

James, There used to be a place called Regal Performance out on Dalrock.  It is tucked back and hidden.  His website used to be lt1sthatrun.com.  His name is Ronnie.  I bought some rear calipers from him to do the disk conversion on my 72 last year.  His website is down but I managed to find a number  (972) 475-5656.  You might call him to see if he has anything.  He sold and shipped a lot of running LT1 and LS1 motors.  He had a pretty good collection of parts still laying around last time I was out there.  He is kind if a character.  Good guy though.  He was one of the go to guys for parts around here back when the LS1 scene was fairly new.

Well, I was away from the computer and in the wrecking yards all afternoon. Came home with a 2002 5.3 out of Tahoe, unkown mileage. It was $433 with tax out the door and included the wiring harnes and computer. That's the good news. The bad news is got it back here and pulled the plugs. A bunch of oil went shooting out of number 4 when I spun it over. There was oil coming out of the intake when I got back the to shop also. When I opened the throttle body about 1/4 cup poured out, maybe a little more. But it did turn over very easily with no wierd noises or clanks or anything like that.

The Tahoe it came out of looked like it was side swiped, but it very may well have been laying on it's side also. I'll post up pics when I get home.

Cool , you even get to see what it was taken out of . Was it from a chain place , or a mom n pop kinda place ?

I guess you could say it's a mom and pop kind of place. Looks like the kids run it though. They let you walk through the yard, pick your motor, then they pull it for you. There was a WS6 Firebird there that the motor was already gone from. A few Camaros too. Several f-body V6's there, but no V8's in cars. Just the Tahoe and a couple of pickups. One pick up for sure was a 4.8 also, the other I never got the hood open cause it was MUNCHED!!!

Maybe a cheaper exhaust setup for guys with covered engines ?

Checking out these Osco 351C manifolds, they're cheap and all, but the water jacketed risers that work with them are BIG bucks.

I have a set of  OT pipes for logs , I am thinking I will get the threaded plates and build stainless adapters to bolt the pipes to . You could do the same thing for regular snails too . Proably cost about $30 worth of Aluminum to make the adapters .

Actually , now that I think of it , I used to  buy aluminum flanges with a aluminum pipe adapter all ready welded onto them for our tank trucks all the time . You could get those for about $10 each . Just screw it in an get it aligned and either tack weld it or put a set screw in it to keep the snails level .

Another thing I see is that the inside diameter on the threaded flange in only 2 1/2 inches. Thread a pipe in there and it's likely down to 2 1/4 ID. Kinda small for a hot rod motor IMO.

The PCM center risers for the LSX manifolds have a 3" ID and that will be the smallest diameter in the system.

Maybe it would be better to machine the ID of it to around 3" and make something to weld onto it that you can bolt the pipes or snails onto  think.gif

Another option is to ditch the engine cover, flip over the stock manifold that still have the cut off pipe nubs bolted to them. Then weld in new exhaust tubing to a turbo and...........

will the ls engine be lighter then my BBC 455  and if you stay with fuel inject will it fix the choke problem i have till it get ready to play think.gif

The LS is alot lighter than a BBC , exactly how much lighter will depend on what motor you go with . As for the choke issue , you should not have any choke problems with an EFI system . It is the same as what you have in a new truck , just start it and go .
