Stuff you need to switch over to an LSX platform.

I have seen some other setups where they move the coils below the exhaust . Probably use the same coil mount and just relocate it . Plug wires will still reach from underneath .

I always forget about this Shirl Dickey because he does not post much.  He has two jet boats he has put LSx motors in.  One he raced in Comp Jet.

ATTENTION ALL FUTURE LS1 BUILDERS!!!!

When putting the crank back in, unlike all other american made V8 engines, the tangs on the main bearings go on the opposite sides of each other!! Looking from the front with the motor upside down, the block tang will be on the left, the bearing cap tang must be on the right or your caps are on backwards.

I just scared to pooh out of me when I lightly tighted inner the bolts and the crank wouldn't budge. Had to look it up...

Hell yeah! Did you know they did that? I started googling part numbers to make sure I had the right stuff, then I notice the shiny spots on the block where the main cap shoulders left clean metal and the caps didn't match the shiny spots the way I had them bolted down. Soooo, googled "LS1 main bearings opposite" and got the linked article. Turns nice and free now. Those bearings are something else too. These motors stay very well oiled.

I would have , thanks for the heads up  :smile17:

ALSO, on the 1 and 5 journals there are slot for the tines on both sides of the cap, so the bearing can go in either way. Make sure they go in opposite of the bearings in the block, like the rest will be. Bearings 2 thru 4 can only go in the cap one way.

Also did reading on the rod bearings. They go the conventional method and the locks go toward the outside of the block for whatever side they are on.

Talking with Sean a while back, who has a 7 second turbo Camaro, said if you're gonna boost an LS motor, you have to stud the heads.

I dont see why anyone would boost any motor and not spend a few bucks more on studs . I am thinking when I do go boost I will probably do o-rings as well as studs ,  but the heads will have to come off anyway to change to thicker head gaskets if I add boost .

Ok , got a question . Is the windage tray going to be different for the F-body pan ? Seems like it would almost have to be , but not sure ? Anyway , that might be why the used pans always go for so much more than it seems they should . I picked up a pan for mine and I got the tray with it , the guy I got it from changed it when he changed pans on his motor .

As far as I know ALL the various LS pans have different windage trays but they always come with it, like this one for $190 that also includes a new gasket, bolts and windage tray, but not the pickup tube. Add the pick up tube and get free shipping. If I don't find one for a deal I'll get a new one. $222 for pan and all necessary parts shipped ain't bad at all.

That o e dont say it has the windage tray , it says it has the baffle . Mine has a baffle in the pan , and a windage tray as well . I was thinking about ordering the same one after you posted the link awhile back . I do still have three more ads out looking for a pan , I will let you know if I find anything .

I think James is right that they are all different but I am not 100% sure.  That would be a good question to ask over on LS1tech.com

Not sure if you can tell by a pic , but I posted a pic of the F-body windage tray over in the Project X thread earlier . I can take a few better pics of it in the morning when I get to the shop . Might be able to compare them to the tray out of your motor .

They are different, and the windage tray is not included. Either is the dipstick and dipstick tube. Pace has a complete kit that shows the windage tray, and it looks nothing like the truck tray.

Bolts, gaskets, block off plate, whole nine yards on this one. With free shipping.
