Get on the ball James! You only have a few months lol!

Ni kidding....these projects typically take longer than planned and before you know it, April will be here and we'll be ramping up for the 2012 lake season!!

Woo Hoo!!!  jump.gif

Right now the plan is to have Sean's laptop connected to it doing the tune in January on a water hose, then winterize it till it hits the water.

Speaking of 2012, anyone made their reservations for Broken Bow yet? We should get that whole group of cabins over by where Matt and Chad stayed last time.

Good deal with Sean.  I have not made my reservation for BB yet.  I did talk to Steve and April and they are in again as well.  Just need to confirm which weekend and I will get mine booked.

Gonna have to find him though. He moved out of that place by my old fridge shop. Chad said he's on the LS1 boards all the time.

There are several other ls tuners in town as well.  Sean is good and close but he tends to kinda disappear every now and then. LOL.

When is Broken Bow?  I think I will be making that loooong trip this coming year.

You should come on the 4th Henry.  Its a great time.  Lake is beautiful.  You'll have a blast.  There are plenty of pics over on youngbloodjetboats.com you will recognize several boats from Tawakoni.

Looks like I'm late to the party - BUT here's some additional info on putting an LSx into a jet boat (I have done two so far).

Exhaust - the link Blaze has is good, but at nearly $900 - you can get Rewarder water injection headers for the LSx for about the same price - you're choice of through transom, over transom, or Mercury style (whatever that means). Also - Lightning Mfg does water jacketed headers for the LSx - but I have not priced those.

Tuning - If you're going EFI and you're anywhere near Victoria, Tx...you simply need to hook up with PatG (Patrick Guerra). One of the best tuners nationwide.

Rear motor mount - If you are already running a BBC, then do you don't need to change anything. LSx and BBC/SBC have the same bolt pattern, except the LSx leaves 1 bolt out. I have switched from an S&W Race Cars rear plate to a Lightning Mfg rear plate with a top mount starter. LSx engines have a 168 tooth flywheel also, so it's the same starter as a BBC.

Front motor mount - If you want, just use an S&W Race Cars front motor plate kit (it's two pieces). The only downside is that it bolts where the water pump (or remote adapters) bolt...so a water pump change won't be as easy.

PTO - I am using a Glenwood marine PTO adapter. They have 1310 and 1350 versions. They originally had them incorrectly marked as being for the LTx series of motors, but after several hours on the phone with them going over measurements with Bob (I think), we figured out the problem. They can be purchased at a VERY reasonable price WITH bolts by calling Glenwood directly.

Fuel System - don't forget that if you are converting to EFI you will likely need two things you don't already have. One is a high pressure fuel pump, and the other is a return line. If you have a single tank, this is easy...if you are like me and have dual tanks it could create an issue. My solution was to use the fuel pump I already had for the carb as a transfer pump. Basically I can fill the left tank from the right tank; but the motor only feeds/returns to the left tank. Sort of like having a big gas can on board. Yes - the $500 Imco fuel switch would be the way to go; or manual fuel valves...but this was super easy.

Cooling system - Moroso has remote water pump fittings now that will make using lake water a breeze. Just remember, though - an aluminum block LSx needs to be at 150*+ to run correctly. Otherwise nothing expands correctly and you lose power from not having enough heat in the heads. Seriously. I have a closed system...but to each their own. An iron block shouldn't be as tough to keep warm. LSx engines also have steam vents at the top of heads - take advantage of these, they will get the air out of the system and prevent hot spots in the heads.

Did I forget anything?

Yeah, I've read a BUNCH of your threads on other forums. You're in Ohio now, right? I have to use the manifolds for my exhaust as I do have an engine cover on my boat. I was thinking closed system for cooling eventually, but want to get it in and running for now. My Glastron now has a metal cradle for mid mounts on the engine utilizing the car mounting points on the block. If I can get that to work I will with a cast aluminum rear mount on the pump.

You said Moroso makes the water pump adapters for lake water? You wouldn't happen to have a part number on that, would you? I was planning on having to get those made.

Only thing left out, did you ever get to run your boat all out with just you in it on GPS? What was the top MPH and RPM?

The only piece I really don't like is those risers.  They seem kinda small and kinked in the pics.  I bet you could get some nice mandrel bent stainless one at some point though.

LOL.  Don't let Cliff know about that paddle  No telling what he would use it for.  :smile20: :smile20: :smile20:

Looks like Meziere is making some water pump adapters too.  Not as nice as the Moroso piece IMO but they are a little less $$$

I've found the exhaust parts for less, that link in the first post just had all the parts in one location with part numbers. Check this out...

Never did get a good number. Had some pump trouble, came back strong with 76 mph and the same 4 person plus cooler load. Converting back to EFI this winter, then twin turbo next winter.

Also, if you can find them it's possible to use Ford 351 marine manifolds with the LSx.

I might have a lead for you on cheaper exhaust...I'll check tomorrow.

76mph from a small block in a 21 foot boat with 4 people and a cooler in it. Not too bad at all. I have an engine cover so I have to have water in my exhaust all the way out.

I gotta say , this whole idea really does have my interest . I think for a family cruiser it might be a great option .

For a family cruiser it's defintiely a great option. Docile, yet powerful. With this motor I may actually teach Maria how to drive it so I get some help at the ramp. Once I get my motor this will go over to the projects section, right back in the old Glastron thread since it never really got done.
