Been doing more reading and searching... There's a BIG $$$ difference between a 2000 Camaro all aluminum 5.7 motor and a 2000 Yukon 4.8 iron block motor.

Now this one is not too bad of a deal with harness and computer.

EDIT: The 4.8 in the linked ad is under $400 shipped, $461 for a 2004 5.3 shipped.

More info, due the short stroke and long rod length of the 4.8 it has the longest TDC duration of all LS series engines, LOVES to be cammed big and boosted, and can easily turn 8,000 rpm's.

Check out this boosted 4.8 making over 1,200 horsepower on a STOCK bottom end.

Another question for Fomula. Would you have the guy doing the harness rewire put a 10ft (or whatever is needed) cable for the OBDII port so it can be connected up front and tuned on the water? Seems that would be a good investment.

That would be sweet on my Avalanche.

It would, but I don't think the rear end can handle that kind of power. It would be better in a jet boat. LOL

My spending is on hold until I know how much out of pocket this back surgery is going to be anyway.  Would still be cool though.

Just buy an OBDII extension cable.

Matt, this is GREAT info. I hope you're not down for too long after your surgery.

Thanks James.  A friend of mine went for the same surgery with the same surgeon.  His was the same disc and it was herniated 13mm. Mine is 17mm.  He went in for his first visit on Friday and the surgeon had him in surgery on the following Monday because his disc was so bad.  He was back to work about a week after surgery.  Hopefully mine goes the same way.  My apt with the surgeon is on the 8th.  Should know more then.

I have been thinking LQ9 , is the LM4 a better fit for jetboat application ? Or do you mainly want the all aluminum motor ?

I would LIKE an all alunimum motor, but will probably run an iron block LM7 due to low initial cost to get it in and running. You'll pay good money for an LQ9.
